Man, that needle is pretty big!

Most of my friends have already gotten this update, but this is for the ones who don't know the latest to the saga!  During my first visit to the fertility specialist, he learned of my situation and diagnosed me with ovarian dysfunction.  Apparently, my ovaries were not acting up to par!  :)  It seems counter-intuitive, but he put me on birth control to regulate and time my periods.  Even though I thought it was a disaster, he did not seem to worry that I had mid-cycle bleeding and then no period at the end of the pack.  Instead, he seemed confident that things were going well.  On my second visit last week, he instructed me to start taking 50 mg of clomid on cycle days 5-9.  On day 12, I will go in for an ultrasound to see if I have any eggs that are almost ready to be released.  If so, and depending on how ready they are, I will have to be given a shot of HcG in my hip by none other than my wonderful girlfriend.  She was so cute sitting in that office listening to the nurse explain how to give me a shot intra-muscularly with a 2 inch needle.  I am very afraid of her now.  Haa....
Our donor had a semen analysis done on the same day to make sure that everything is okay on his side, and the analysis turned out great.  She described his cells as "pretty," and no, I'm not kidding!!  I giggled when she used that word to describe his donation.  I guess we have to be a little light hearted when it comes to something as potentially akward as this all can be.
So there it is:  Tomorrow is cycle day numero uno.  I have to start taking my basal body temperature first thing in the morning, and then in five days I will start the fertility meds.  I have heard horror stories of the side effects of these drugs, and I'm not looking forward to the fact that I may be a little crazy here for a while.  But we both agree that the end result will be so worth every little hormone induced crazy spell that I will probally have.  :)
